NIHR horizon scanning contract news

Jan 2017

It is with great sadness to HSRIC staff that after a competitive bidding process, the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) awarded its new horizon scanning contract for the NHS and NIHR research programmes to a new team. The current team at the University of Birmingham are working towards a hand over of horizon scanning activities to the team at the Newcastle University on 1st April 2017.

The new NIHR Innovation Observatory (NIHRIO) will bring together data scientists, evidence synthesis experts, software engineers and systematic reviewers to create expertise in observing and reporting on health innovation in the UK and beyond utilising next generational digital analytics. It is not yet clear what the range of work will be or what outputs the NIHRIO will produce. The NIHRIO Director is Professor Michael Trenell with other staff being appointed.

We will update our informants and collaborators when we know more about NIHRIO’s future plans via the HSRIC website (www.hsric.nihr.ac.uk) and on Twitter https://twitter.com/@officialnhsc.

The team at the NIHR HSRIC at the University of Birmingham wish to thank all our many friends and collaborators who have supported our development and delivery of horizon scanning activities over the past 19 years.
