REVIEW - New and emerging mobile health interventions that promote behavioural change
The proliferation of mobile technologies and social media has provided a natural opportunity to explore their use in the healthcare setting to deliver behavioural change interventions. In this horizon scanning review we identify new and emerging mobile health (mHealth) interventions that encourage behavioural change and/or claim to achieve risk factor reduction in adults; with a focus on healthy eating, physical activity and positive mental health.
Our report outlines what mHealth is and the current mHealth landscape. We also asked mHealth experts to comment on the potential opportunities and challenges associated with mHealth interventions for patients and the health service. A snap shot of soon to be or recently released interventions is provided and interventions are categorised according to type (e.g. biofeedback) or form of technology (e.g. wearables).
